I’m An Old Dog, But I’ve Learned New Tricks!

Taking a little DJ company I operated from my bedroom world-wide in less than three years was a pretty damn good trick back in the 80’s without the Internet, social media and so on.

I lived and breathed marketing and I BELIEVED in my company and its solution to have a COMMITMENT to strategic marketing.

Oh yea, the other thing that made me the #1 company in my market was FLEXIBILITY.  When conditions changed, or competitors surfaced, I was able to ‘turn on a dime’.  My marketing strategies adapted and I continued to refine my business by asking the right questions which I’ll reveal later on.

Business today however, is quite different in a lot of ways, but flexibility still plays an important role.  The trouble is many don’t see that.  They believe what was working before, will work now.

I know this because I speak to A LOT of entrepreneurs and feel their pain because they’re stuck in old strategies & old ways of thinking.

Your Answers Have Changed

Consider this:  Knowing what you know today, would you agree that your answers have changed, but the questions remain the same?

Ask yourself “in knowing what I know now, is there anything I would NOT do today, if I could do it over?

That simple question is either ignored or not even in the rotation.  If you’re one of the 96% of struggling Real Estate entrepreneurs thinking you’re “making good time” trying harder and harder to get results, you may just be on the wrong road.

Wouldn’t it make sense that what you’re doing today is based on decisions made to questions answered a while ago?  And even though it may have been relevant 12 months ago, if you’re not getting the results you want, you’re operating on old assumptions.

In fact, my answers today are ENTIRELY different from when I started investing.  I’ll guess that yours are as well.  It’s because I constantly challenge my answers … I do the same thing with our clients so they face the real truth NOW and reevaluate their situation before ending up lost and confused.

The information you now use to base your decisions is no longer the same, but don’t think it’s information that’s ‘never before been released’, that’s BS.

What has changed is your perception of it, the way it’s presented, etc. , but everything you need is already out there IF you take the time to find it, study it and apply it.  I have a real pet peeve with gurus re-packaging stuff and ‘selling’ it as something revolutionary.

While I’m on that, I make sure I tell EVERY ONE (clients, audiences, etc) “I’m a teacher, not a creator” because I have an addiction to information, and I absorb an enormous amount of material (a book a week);  then I filter, refine, retool and reteach it in a strategic way that is relevant to a client situation (or audience) so it’s immediately effective saving them years of wondering what they should study.  Besides my experience, there isn’t anything they can’t find themselves, but why is it that so many people still fail at business?

Part of that answer circles back to the answers you have given to the important questions.  Are they the same today as yesterday?  Think about that.  I believe that people are always looking to find NEW information but are sticking to a ‘dream’ they arrived at two, three, five years ago sitting in a workshop that makes NO SENSE today for them … maybe that’s where the new information lies.

Today’s world & your market have changed.

So, Let’s Start To Analyze Your Business

I’ll leave you with a very easy way we start out with our clients to measure you’re success rate:  Ask yourself two basic questions

  1. “What’s working?” and
  2. “What’s not working?”

I KNOW it’s simple – it’s NOT revolutionary – but I never said it was going to be.   I believe the secret about business is … simplicity!

And here’s another secret – do LESS of what’s not working, and MORE of what is working. ( I don’t know where I first read that one, but it works )

Hey, I’d love to hear back from you – do you have a question or comment?  Let’s start up a conversation on what is not working and I can help guide you!
