I’m so grateful for the time I have. I am in no way the perfect manager of time, but I realize I have more than most people ‘say’ they do. What’s the single most overheard phrase these days? “I don’t have the time”.
Well I’m not going to get into that debate today because everyone HAS the time and it’s the same 24 hours WE ALL have. If you don’t have time for your children for instance, you are choosing something else instead. And YES, having to work is a choice.
But I digress; the importance of this post is to extend my gratification to the universe, to the powers that be and to my friends and career colleagues whom have helped my advancement in such a short while. They have given me a gift they could not have imagined: more TIME. It is what I would like to be able to give back to someone else because it’s the common element everyone seems to be missing.
I don’t think I ‘appreciate’ long weekends and holidays like most people do because I’m booking in appointments or get-togethers and constantly reminded by my wife or friends “you know that’s the long weekend right?” “S – – T, no I forgot”. It’s because I have never needed to ‘wait’ for a long-weekend to get away, or do something with the family. I’ve been in business my entire life, I know nothing about ‘booking off my vacation weeks’ or punching out at 5 o’clock. I do things when I feel like it and sometimes that means a 2pm nap, or working past 7:30pm or like yesterday, basting in the sweltering sun watching my daughter splash around the pool for 3 hours – it wasn’t planned but just a whim after lunch since she had no ‘play-date’.
I don’t mean that to sound arrogant or smug but just a realization of how blessed I am to be in this position. There is still a great way to go but I’m employing more of my gifted time to what is way more important. I am a fully engaged investor enjoying the benefits of having my money work harder that I do every day.
