Let’s be real – you’re BIG VISION may actually be screwing you up.
In my opinion, you will always struggle if you ignore the hidden truth.
Are You Experiencing BVB?
The Big Vision Block (BVB) has consumed many real estate entrepreneurs’ lives – I see it over and over again with most of the people I speak with.
The BVB comes after you’ve done your homework of creating a future image on paper that you want to get to but then you’re stuck in the “how”, “where do I…” and so on.
Not only that, but it also ‘controls’ your life in ways that are making you stressed, unhappy and unfulfilled.
In other words, you are having an internal fight with yourself every day.
It’s an epidemic in my view because even though there are tons of people actively trying to get ahead in their lives and businesses, the truth is, they NEVER get close to their TRUE freedom point.
Why??
There are many reasons why this happens but for now I want to share an idea of why so many entrepreneurs get caught in circular chaos.
Most Entrepreneurs Live In Circular Chaos
Aside from not truly having a “why”, (that’s for another time), most (not the successful ones) are caught-up in the future – that means, they are ONLY LIVING for the future goal.
Is there anything wrong with that? Yes and no.
“No” because in my opinion, you should have a ‘target’ to aim for – HOWEVER, “yes” you’re making a HUGE mistake if you “live” today based on the outcome OF those goals, achievements, awards and so on.
I would ask, “what are you giving up to get what you want?”
I can tell you from the hundreds of people I’ve talked with and the multiple groups of entrepreneurs I’ve coached, they give up on themselves (yes, believe it or not the stop believing), their families and their peace of mind – it sounds quite harsh but they are giving up what “will make them happy” to chase the dream.
Here’s an example:
If you have an income goal to go from $100,000 to $200,000 in 12 months, that’s fantastic; you don’t have to be told there’s a bit of tweaking to do and it’s obvious you need to be even more committed, wouldn’t you agree?
But here’s the problem (and I see this a LOT, especially with my realtor coaching clients): you end up choosing something over another and it violates your inner system.
Did you get that? VIOLATES your internal values. In other words, you are constantly managing an internal fight with that little voice in your head and the stronger feeling in your heart…and, you’re doing this EVERY DAY, whether you realize it or not.
For instance, you may feel ‘out of balance’ because you are not having any real fun, laughing, letting go of the day, you’re not working out; you’re spouse, children and friends see you for split seconds of the day but all you want to do is shut down and recharge…so you’re not really ‘present’.
Commitment is one thing, but giving up your life for your business is another.
You’ve had a hard, long day and just want ‘to be in peace’ for a bit, but you fly down the hallway to grab your cell phone because “it could be someone who wants to ‘buy’”.
Funny isn’t it? You’ll disengage with your children to lie on the couch, but you’re an Olympic sprinter to get to your damn phone in time so you don’t miss the ‘opportunity’.
Go ahead, ask me how I know that.
So What’s The Answer?
Create Boundaries.
It took ME quite a few years to actually understand and implement this into my life, but it means: go ahead, create your Big Vision, BUT it MUST have boundaries that you are unwilling to cross to get to it.
“I want this, but NOT that”
Here’s an example:
“I will double my income from $100,000 to $200,000 in the next 12 months, but I will NOT work MORE than I am right now; in fact, I will reduce my work week by one full day. That day will be all mine, to do what I want, by myself, to enjoy the fruits of my labor and sometimes buy something without worrying about the ‘money’ – I buy it because it makes me happy, or someone else in my life happy. I will NOT give up connection time with my family and friends and I DO NOT want to get fat and unhealthy. I will accomplish this by focusing on a particular customer that I know my product/service can help – I will NO LONGER chase a sale just to gain the money to bring me to my goal because I know it may sacrifice other areas of my life.”
The more precise you are about your vision and your boundaries, what you’re willing to give up and what you’re not, the better and faster your decisions will be.
The “woo-woo” part of this is that you are telling your conscious and non-conscious mind to “look” for the right opportunities, situations & people (including customers) that “fit” that vision.
But let me warn you, it’s NOT easy to live within those boundaries because you are forcing yourself to detach from the future, from the attachment to only money and extrinsic rewards – that’s why there are only 2-4% of the world’s population that is living their true dream – both in business and life. But I believe you can join that small percentage or you wouldn’t visit me here all the time.
