So there I am chatting with a buddy who knows I ‘dabble’ in real estate and he’s asking me “what’s new?” Because I don’t see him often, trying to cram months of information, inspiration and enthusiasm into an hour or two is difficult. I was ecstatic mentioning all the joint venture meetings I have had over the summer and those scheduled for the next few weeks. I proceeded to tell him this was the next huge stepping stone for my wife and I and 2011 was going to be a stellar year for us as well as the people for which we are helping create wealth.
He smiled and said “don’t jinx it man”. I asked him what that meant and he went on to say “you know, you’ve worked so hard to get all of this, just don’t say anything until it happens.” So I replied and said “What? Talking about this to anyone and everyone is EXACTLY how we have established it all…INCLUDING the people who want to invest WITH us.” “There is no official supreme jinx God sitting on a cloud waiting for someone like me to announce something before it happens so they can zap it away…in fact by telling people what I am GOING to do, it makes me accountable and pushes me further” I replied. “I believe the universe has its OWN energy which accounts for success and failure, period. I decided long ago to put out positive energy and it has a way of finding me.”
I think he was taken aback by that and I guess I understand the old school mentality of just keeping your mouth shut and wait for your ‘dream’ to happen before you say anything. I see the wide-eye stares from my family when I talk about our debt load, our portfolio wealth or anything to do with money so openly…that’s just the way it has to be for me, transparent, open and honest.
So why not be honest with YOURSELF; with the universe; with other people?
