I’m As Scared As Hell, And I’m Not Going To Take This Anymore!

mad-as-hellThe official line from the movie ‘Network’ is “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore” and just by tweaking the ONE word, it explains how people are shifting their mindset today.

I believe the line has a double meaning, an impact that is very important for you to understand why we do the things we do.

We Change For One of TWO Reasons

First, let’s drill down to the TWO primary reasons we humans make a change in our lives:  we are forced by circumstance, or we DECIDE to make a change.

Aside from an instant tragic event or something like that, I’m sure you’ll agree with me that MOST of us only make a change when we HAVE to; but the interesting thing is we still come up with an explanation to suggest we did it on purpose.

Let’s say you were just fired from your job.  The human brain scrambles for reasons to ease the impact of rejection.  “It was bound to happen, I just started caring less, I started showing up late, and the work I handed in was not up to standard”…and so on and so on.

This is one way of ‘justifying’ the circumstance and actually makes one believe THEY were IN CONTROL and chose to get fired.  Sure, there ARE instances you may deliberately sabotage something like a job to get fired, but that’s not my point.

My point is, every day we have choices to better ourselves, to move away from things that are not working … to move away from the PAIN and yet 96% of the world choose to keep doing what’s not working!  These people keep absorbing the pain UNTIL the universe slaps them in the face and throws something at them they can’t ignore.

That’s pretty sad to me, when you can choose to do something better and think positively instead of being a victim of negativity and self-doubt.

There’s Good News!

That brings me to the second definition of the line “I’m as scared as hell, and I’m not taking this anymore.”  More than ever before, I’m experiencing a new shift in people first hand … for instance, all my coaching clients have made positive choices BEFORE circumstances force them to change.  In other words, they are doing something about their lives and business because they do not want to be the victim any longer.

Yes, they’re “as scared as hell” for two reasons:

  1. Scared that if they keep doing what they’re doing, they are NEVER going to get what they want. (BRAVO for this mindshift)
  2. Scared if they try something new, that it will fail.

THINK about that trap for a moment.

Are YOU, or someone you know in that same trap?

I know I was.

It’s like being in a cage, and the door to escape holds a mental barrier that for too many people seems worse than realizing they will never amount to anything – to some, it’s even worse than death.

I know that sounds absurd, but believe me, there are people who will do anything to avoid failure …I  can’t count anymore HOW many people I’ve met and talked to that are intelligent enough to realize all of this but still choose the cage.

In my mind, if you choose to break free of the cage and see what the world has to offer the worst that can happen is you retreat back into your cage again.

So where’s the good news?  Today, everyone trapped in this virtual cage know a lot more than people did even 3 years ago. They are more receptive to affirmations and positive opportunities, books, influences, support, mentors & coaches that could help them MAKE those better choices and guide them through the darkness of possible ‘failure’.

That’s why I’m getting more clients who admit they’re “as scared as hell” but they’ve decided that staying where they are NOT moving out of the cage is FAR worse than the fear of walking toward the horizon they can’t see beyond.

What I see has changed with SOME people is their BELIEF.

BELIEF in yourself, in others, in your dream and everything that emotionally charges you up … & inspires you to move beyond the depths of the ‘cage’ … and yes, it’s going to be as “scary as hell”  but KUDOS to you if you’re of the ‘new age’ of thinking!

BELIEF in yourself, in others, in your dream and everything that emotionally charges you up … & inspires you to move beyond the depths of the ‘cage’ … and yes, it’s going to be as “scary as hell!”

PS.  I was inspired to write this post after reading Brendon Burchard’s book The Charge: Activating the 10 Human Drives That Make You Feel Alive which is a fantastic read.  That’s my affiliate link, so if you buy it from there, I’ll get a few cents for sending you over there 🙂  Just want to be transparent.

So let me know your thoughts and if you ‘feel’ scared … what’s holding you back?
