Entrepreneurs have a BADDDDDDD habit.
I know habits are hard to break, but if we keep it up, we’re going to get stuck working harder and longer.
We’ll NEVER “get there”.
What habit am I talking about?
The habit of “flip-flopping”. That’s the street definition for “lack of focus.”
I’m self-diagnosed A.D.D. I’m sure a LOT of people I meet (maybe even you) are as well.
We have too many damn good ideas.
Or worse, we “want” to do things but truly don’t BELIEVE in ourselves to do it.
Think about it.
If you’re saying “of course I believe in myself”, is there any decision in your life or business right now that you’re stuck on?
If you’ve thought about it over and over, have weighed the pros and cons, what’s stopping you?
Some will tell me “fear”.
Fear is just another way of saying “I don’t believe in me”
Face it because it’s the truth.
It’s hard to swallow, and it’s why so many of my clients want to throw bricks at me, but if you don’t face what’s really stopping you, you’ll never get past it.
Let’s look at this a bit further because I’ve had the opportunity to speak to hundreds of entrepreneurs over the years.
They’ve given me so many definitions and reason “fear” stops them.
Here’s a good one.
“Joey, it TRULY IS fear of the unknown. I don’t know enough about [insert here]. What if I make this decision and [I lose money]-[I fail]-[something goes wrong & I can’t pay the bills]?”
If someone told YOU any excuse like these, what would you READ from it?
Do you agree it shouts disbelief?
Here’s how I see it: first, if you start anything with “what if”, that’s the beginning of disbelief.
What if you DO lose money? Are you done? Will you not try to recover?
Will you roll over and die?
Silly question right?
But it’s not so silly in people’s minds. It’s what stops them.
THAT my friend, is disbelief.
What’s really happening in their subconscious is “I don’t believe in this…so I won’t try.”
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve believed in something and it fell flat on the floor.
My first thought was “wow, I didn’t see THAT coming – now I know.”
It didn’t stop me – it doesn’t stop someone like Richard Branson (I’m not comparing myself to him, but pedestals are another form of self-doubt).
It’s HOW I got my experience. It’s HOW I’m able to move forward INTO the unknown.
Trust me, the worst is NEVER as bad as you dream it is…but those NIGHTMARES keep many of us stranded and working for someone else, doing something we really hate and missing our lives.
YOU have to STOP the flip-flop habit of “should I or shouldn’t I?”
Make the decision and go with it.
Either way, you’ll be in a different place than you are today and you will have learned something.
Learning is what makes you successful; not trying to piece the mountains of information that’s available to us first and hoping you’ll make the perfect right decision the first time.
Here’s a secret; you will NEVER get all the information you need in advance to make the “right” decisions.
That’s why analysis paralysis has such a hold on people.
There’s so much information available to us we just keep looking “in case we miss something”.
What you’re REALLY missing is growth, experience, knowledge, opportunity and your LIFE.
Take it from me.
That’s why I devote my life mission to coaching entrepreneurs to live & work without sacrifice.
Let me know your thoughts below! Let’s keep the conversation going.
